Two twins share a small boat on a foggy sea. Each has a lamp—one for reading, one for warmth. When the boat tilts, one twin sees but freezes; the other stays warm but sits in darkness. They learn to balance: light plus heat equals all they have.
A crack runs along the keel. When the boat tilts, pressure seals it shut. When the boat balances, the crack opens. Light streams up from below—a blade of light rising through the fog. And in that light: a silhouette.
This parable makes the first complementarity relation for gravitational decoherence accessible. The lamps are coherence decay and anomalous heating. The tilt is the measurement angle. Balance is θ = 45°, where cos²θ = sin²θ. The crack is the Dominance axis—the invariant structure of Order. The sum is the completeness criterion:
Γ/Γ₀ + D/D₀ = 1. If the sum equals one, two channels account for all decoherence; if less than one, a third channel exists.
The crack was always there. Balance only opens it. The silhouette was always there. Looking only reveals what was hidden.
